Stratford-Born Artist Produces Stunning New Portrait of Town

Stratford-born and bred artist Jane Tomlinson has recently completed a stunning new portrait of Stratford-upon-Avon. It’s a map but this one is very different; the artist has deliberately set out to be subjectively. Jane says: “I wanted to make a picture that says something personal about the way I feel for our beautiful town and all the fascinating things you can find there. Stratford has so many wonderful stories to tell and this is mine. It is my love letter to the town that shaped me and that will forever be home.”

Like any map, Jane’s shows the shape of the town centre, its buildings and roads, but also quirky things you normally wouldn’t see on a map such as history, nature, trees, shops, birds, activities and – as this is a map of Stratford – lots of Shakespearean references. It will delight locals and visitors alike.

The original hand-drawn map is on display in February at the Montpellier Gallery, 8 Chapel Street. Pop in a have look!
